​ Last night, I was on the field for the rematch between #4 Jefferson High and #5 George Washington High, a game that carried all the weight of their first matchup—and then some. Their previous meeting ended in a dramatic 34–33 Jefferson victory, marking Jefferson’s first win of the year after an 0–4 start. That loss was also George Washington’s first of the season. Since then, Jefferson hasn’t looked back. They’ve been rolling, and last night they showed exactly why. This second meeting wasn’t nearly as tight. Jefferson controlled the game from start to finish and walked away with a 28–21 win, officially punching their ticket to the WVSSAC AAAA Quarterfinals. The score makes the game look closer than it felt—if not for a handful of untimely penalties, Jefferson could’ve put this one away by an even larger margin. This was the second meeting between Spring Mills and Musselman this season, but the energy didn’t resemble their first matchup—when Spring Mills rolled to a 20–0 victory. During warmups, Musselman made it clear they weren’t intimidated by their earlier loss, and Spring Mills took offense to the visitors chirping on their home turf. This past Monday marked the final JV football game of the season — a matchup between Spring Mills JV and Hedgesville JV that turned out to be one of the most competitive games of the year. Spring Mills brought some extra energy to the field, moving a few of their freshman players up for the game, and it showed early. Both teams came out hungry, trading big plays and defensive stops throughout the night. The atmosphere was intense — players giving it their all, coaches locked in, and parents cheering every snap. In the end, Hedgesville managed to pull off the win, closing out the JV season on a high note. But the effort and heart from both sides made this game one to remember. Washington jumped out to an early 2–0 lead in the first half and never looked back, using a strong defensive effort to hold off the Cardinals. Despite several pushes from Spring Mills in the second half, Washington’s back line stayed organized and denied every opportunity. This past Friday, I had the opportunity to capture the action as Spring Mills hosted Morgantown in a high-stakes matchup. The Cardinals came into this game with plenty of motivation, looking to build on last season’s playoff meeting, but Morgantown was determined to get their revenge. The previous season, Spring Mills had edged Morgantown in the WVSSAC quarterfinals 14‑7, a game they felt slipped away due to turnovers. Morgantown came out swinging this time, and it was clear from the opening kickoff that they were ready to make a statement. Spring Mills’ defense started strong, forcing a huge 3-and-out against Morgantown’s high-powered offense led by sophomore Maddox Twigg. Friday night’s matchup between Spring Mills and Wheeling Park had everything you’d expect from a classic high school football battle—big plays, momentum swings, and a finish that came down to the final seconds. Wheeling Park leaned heavily on their run game, and it paid off in a big way. Senior running back Brennan Wack put on a performance to remember, carrying the ball 31 times for an impressive 233 yards and finding the end zone five times. His ability to keep the chains moving and punch in scores kept Wheeling Park ahead, but Spring Mills never went away quietly. The Cardinals had their shot late in the fourth quarter. The NFL season officially kicked off last night with one of the league’s biggest rivalries: the Dallas Cowboys versus the Philadelphia Eagles. And while the Cowboys didn’t come away with the win, I walked away feeling encouraged about some things—and concerned about others. 📸 Terrance Williams AP Offense: Signs of Growth, but Still Flaws One thing that stood out immediately is how much better Dallas looked offensively compared to last year. The line gave Dak Prescott some protection, and there was a sense of rhythm early on, especially with the run game in the first half. The ground attack looked balanced and kept Philadelphia guessing. But in the second half, Dallas leaned way too heavily on the pass. And while Dak was sharp at times, the offense became predictable—mainly because 90% of his throws went to CeeDee Lamb. On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, I was courtside capturing the action as the Hedgesville Eagles traveled to face the Martinsburg Bulldogs in an EPAC girls varsity volleyball matchup. Hedgesville entered the night undefeated in conference play, and they showed why. The Eagles played with energy and focus, taking control of the match to secure the win. With the victory, Hedgesville improves to 3-0 in the EPAC, while Martinsburg falls to 1-2. The Bulldogs put up a strong fight, feeding off their home crowd, but the Eagles’ execution and consistency gave them the edge down the stretch. The Spring Mills High School freshman football team kicked off their season against the Martinsburg Bulldogs freshman squad, and the Bulldogs came out on top with a 28–12 victory. Martinsburg looked sharp on offense, doing a great job running the ball and spreading it around through the air. Their balance kept Spring Mills’ defense on its heels. On the other hand, Spring Mills’ offense became a little too predictable. They leaned heavily on one wide receiver, which made it easier for Martinsburg’s defense to key in and anticipate the game plan. Spring Mills did find success on the ground and showed flashes of a strong run game. Had they stuck with it and spread the ball to their many weapons, the outcome could have been very different. Unfortunately, penalties also played a big role. Costly flags killed promising Spring Mills drives while extending several Martinsburg possessions. At one point, the penalty discrepancy looked close to 30–2. While I’m not saying there was “home cooking,”...
